Red Velvet Cake

1 c. butter
1/2 c. oil
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla

1 t. vinegar

2 oz. red food color

2-1/2 c. flour

2 t. cocoa

1 t. soda

1 t. salt

1 c. buttermilk

 

Cream butter, oil and sugar until fluffy.  Add eggs, beat well.  Add vinegar and red food coloring.  Mix well.  Sift together all dry ingredients.  Add dry ingredients and milk to creamed mixture alternately, beating well.  Pour into 3 8" cake pans.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

 

Frosting

 

1 box powder sugar

1 stick butter or margarine

1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese

1 t. vanilla

 

Mix together all ingredients.  Frost top and between layers of cooled cake.
