Gingerbread

2 c. sifted all purpose flour

1 tea. baking soda

3/4 tea. cinnamon

1-1/2 tea. ginger

1/2 tea. nutmeg

3/4 tea. salt

1/2 c. shortening

1-1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar

2 eggs

1 c. milk

1 tea. vinegar

 

Combine milk and vinegar and set aside for 2 minutes.  Sift flour, baking soda, spices, and salt together.  Cream sugar and shortening.  Add eggs.  Beat until light.  Alternately add flour mixture and sour milk to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.  Pour into 8" square pan.  Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

 

This is great served with whipped cream.
